Physician FAQS
● Why should I choose Itropine compared to other atropine drops?
○ Itropine is the FIRST in the world to complete clinical trials on the medication’s effectiveness in treating myopia progression.
● Is there a specific time of day that Itropine drops should be instilled?
○ Itropine can be applied at any time of the day. Some studies apply the drops at bedtime, which is likely to further eliminate the minimal side effects as much as possible.
● What ages can be considered for Itropine therapy?
○ Our prescription eye drop works as an excellent myopia control treatment, especially for younger patients or those who may not be good candidates for other options such as orthokeratology or specialty multifocal contacts. Children as young as 4 years old have been included in clinical studies!
● When is the earliest point to effectively assess myopia progression with Itropine?
○ Studies show that typically at the 6 month mark, progression should slow significantly to at least –0.50 D of change annually.
● Is it an option to combine Itropine therapy with other myopia treatments?
○ Yes, Itropine can be an adjunct therapy. Although myopia treatments are completed (or added) one at a time to properly assess efficacy, it is possible to combine treatment modalities for additive effectiveness, for example with orthokeratology.
● Does Itropine have any adverse effects?
○ The safety profile of low dosage atropine is good, not having effects on visual acuity or quality of life due to being well tolerated and negligible.
